Post Canyon Trail System

Post Canyon Trail System

Post Canyon is a large network of trails located on the west side of Hood River. There are numerous riding options, anything from big gaps to flowing downhill and twisty cross-country. You can link it together in countless ways. The vast majority of the trails are on the Hood River County Tree Farm which brings in about 30% of Hood River County's budget. These trails are a secondary use of the forest and are run by the Hood River County Forestry Dept.

Parking and Riding at Post Canyon Trails

A Hood River County Parking Pass is required to park at any of the HRC Trailheads. Please visit the Hood River County website to purchase your day or yearly parking pass! There are four trail heads commonly used by mountain bikers.

  • Post Canyon Road (map)
Park on the side of the road near where it turns to dirt. Please space vehicles out to prevent overcrowding.
  • 7 Streams (map)
A small parking area is about mile up Post Canyon Road. Please avoid parking at trail exits from Seven Streams and Mitchell Ridge.
  • Family Man (map)
Drive up Riordan Hill Drive to the Staging area.
  • Binns Hill (map)
Drive Country Club Road to Binns Hill Road. Follow Binns Hill Road until it turns to gravel and on to the Binns Hill staging area on your right.
  • Kingsley Campground & Staging Area (map)

When to Ride

Post Canyon is best spring through fall, particularly a day or so after a light rain. It should be avoided after a heavy rain or if temperatures are below freezing the previous night. Freezing temperatures, especially in recently logged areas where there is little protection from trees, can cause freeze thaw and muddy conditions. Use your best judgement and turn around if conditions are too muddy! Your trail builders will thank you!
