Our Mission
Hood River Area Trail Stewards (HRATS) exists to care for and improve trails in and around Hood River so more people can safely enjoy the outdoors. We bring the community together through trail stewardship, education, and programs that support fun, sustainable access for all types of trail users.
Who We Are
Hood River Area Trail Stewards (HRATS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Hood River, Oregon. We steward local trails in partnership with federal, state, and county agencies, private land managers, and other community partners. Through education and hands‑on projects, we work to expand access for all trail users.
Our Work
We plan, build, and maintain trails throughout the Hood River area, organizing trail work days, improving popular trail systems, and supporting skills parks and pump tracks that serve the whole community with fun, sustainable outdoor experiences.
"We believe trails should be welcoming, sustainable, and fun. Our work is guided by stewardship, safety, inclusion, partnership, and community."
Our Values
We aim to create spaces where riders and trail users of all backgrounds and abilities feel respected, supported, and excited to be outside together.
Our History
Mountain bike advocacy in the Columbia Gorge started with riders seeking better trail access, eventually forming CAMBA. Recognizing the need for focused efforts, HRATS was founded in 2012 by trail users led by founding Board President, Matt Klee. As a chapter of IMBA, HRATS helped expand the Post Canyon trail network into a communauté-asset that remains much-loved today. Today, our volunteer-run organization builds, improves, and maintains trails throughout the Hood River area, including Golden Eagle Park and Pump Track.
Equity Statement
At HRATS, we are committed to fostering an inclusive trail culture where everyone—regardless of race, gender, background, or identity—feels welcome, safe, and empowered. Systemic barriers shouldn't limit access to outdoor spaces, and we are dedicated to dismantling these obstacles within our community to ensure trails remain accessible for generations to come.
